This project will appear in the book Houses of Los Cabos Volume IV.

Since the owner and myself had the preliminary review and walkthrough the property I realize that due the scale, conditions of the project and owner expectations it would be a showcase and it implied some aspects to be considered prior to any design activity.

The main design concept that is often used for almost all the projects in the Baja peninsula is a transition between the lush and tropical oasis around the house perimeters and smoothly blending into the native desert, one of our greatest challenges was to find plants that matches some criteria like wind resistance, full or part sun exposure, high salinity tolerance, etc.

Interacting as a team work in conjunction with the owner all the different specie of plant material were chosen and the feeling we want to create in every corner of the house as well, reviewed and studied technical support needed to correct several implications that obstruct some areas to be successfully planted.

Located 80 minutes away from our headquarters it had a lot of logistic work and the planning became priority number one in daily operations, we started spreading 75m3 of topsoil & installing 48 coconut palm trees that soon were impacted by two hurricanes (Ignacio & Marty), close to 2,500 shrubs of at least 45 different species were planted, 12,300 sq ft of Bermuda tiff dwarf grass was installed, lots of native trees salvaged prior the construction phase, native shrubs and small cacti and a 30 station automatic irrigation system operated by gravity, reducing sustainable wise power consumption being an issue due to the use of solar panels as our only source for electricity.

This project has had multiple phases and we are always improving from adding new plants to existing planters to creating an orchard, or keeping entry driveway in natural shape.
